The Cross Mountain trail is a 6.6 round trip hike to the base of lizard head peak (13,113'). The trailhead is at 10.040' and the trail climbs 1900' to 11,940'. The first 1.9 miles and elevation gain of 1200' is in a spruce-fir forest. the the trees give way to open meadows with ever improving views. Lizard Head Peak comes into view along with the high peaks of the San Miguel Range including Cross Mountain, Mt Wilson and Gladstone Peak. We enjoyed the snow that fell a few days earlier.
