HIKE TO RED MOUNTAIN #3

Red Mountain #3 at 12,890' is the highest of the three Red Mountain Peaks located between Ouray and Silverton Colorado.  The hike to the summit is approximately 5.5 miles with an elevation gain of around 2282'. This hike is on a road that passes the Carbon Lake Mine and crosses tundra slopes before switchbacking steeply up to the summit. The view from the summit is absolutely incredible but during my first trip in june there were many deep, steep snowfields to cross and was unable to make it to the top. I Returned again in August with Tim & Jill Hood and again in September with Zarita to enjoy the Magnificent view.
